There may be several words you come across that relate to oil painting. Sometimes it helps to know what each word means; it can make learning oil painting much easier! A pigment refers to the true color or hue of the paint. To prime means you make the surface ready for painting. Scumbling means you drag the paint in a broken manner over a previously dry painted surface. Linseed Oil is the primary binding agent in oil painting and printing inks. Saturation refers to the greatest possible intensity of color.
