Paper Making and Its History

Paper making has been around since the Ancient Egyptians used papyrus and scrolls to write on. The actual making of paper has been credited to T’sai Lun from China. In 105 AD in an attempt to find a suitable substitute to the silk screens used as paper in China, T’sai was experimenting with different plan fibers in hopes of finding something else to use. It was during this experiment that T’sai came up with a method that used bamboo to make into paper. T’sai took the bamboo stems and separated them into fibers that were individualized and then mixed those fibers with water and spread them on a screen to dry. Paper was the result.
